AI in education: Experts warn of the risks of overreliance and the need for regulations

A s technology becomes increasingly prevalent in education, the AI prompt experts, AIPRM, have utilised AI( Artificial Intelligence) to uncover which study habits are leading to poor exam results. Christoph C. Cemper, Founder of AIPRM, shares expert commentary on how these tools can act as a powerful ally in breaking bad habits and personalising study approaches, while also warning against the risks of over-reliance.

Cramming the night before emerged as the most stressful habit, scoring 10 / 10 on the stress scale. Research shows 32 % of British students cram for exams, a figure that continues to rise despite its negative impact on grades and wellbeing. Experts recommend‘ spaced repetition’ – such as daily flashcards – as a healthier alternative.
Multitasking ranked second, scoring 9 / 10, with task switching linked to fatigue and frustration. Instead, students are encouraged to try monotasking methods such as the Pomodoro Technique, which uses 25-minute intervals to maintain focus.
Studying without a plan came third, scoring 8 / 10. This often leaves students overwhelmed, but creating a schedule with daily goals can provide structure and reduce stress.
Cemper said:“ AI should be used to think with students, not for them. Without safeguards, over-reliance risks weaker critical thinking, poor knowledge retention and even plagiarism. As AI use expands in education, so too must regulation, literacy and responsible adoption.”
